Pick and place your new kitchen team with confidence.
Alongside space and budget, where to place kitchen appliances – and which appliance options you choose – depends a lot on your cooking style and personal preferences. Get practical considerations and tips for each appliance category from the experts at Bosch.
Which hob type is right for me?
- Do you often need a flexible cooking space? If so, an induction hob or electric hob might be your best bet.
- Do you like to whip up meals quickly (induction) or do you tend to simmer and savour (gas)?
- Which kinds of cookware do you prefer? For favourite-pot compatibility, gas is your best option.
- Is easy cleaning important? If so, look for cooktops with continuous surfaces and/or dishwasher-proof pan supports.
When considering different hobs for your new kitchen, start with your cooking habits and preferences. Find out answers to questions like what makes induction better, why to choose a gas hob and which hobs are easiest to clean in the gallery below.
Your hob is one of the main work spaces in your kitchen. Choose a location where you can connect it properly (especially if it's a gas hob) and ensure proper ventilation.
Need a dimension check? Standard hobs measure 60 cm in width. Domino hobs are 30 cm and larger sized hobs can be 70, 80 or 90 cm wide.
Ensure a proper ventilation channel within your cabinetry. To protect drawer contents, add an intermediate horizontal panel beneath your hob for insulation.
Leave enough space to place cooking utensils, small cutting boards, etc. We suggest at least 60 cm from the end of a unit and 30 cm from a tall unit.
For safety reasons, it's best to maintain a minimum distance of 60 cm between your hob and sink.
Which cooker hood do I need?
- Ideally, an effective cooker hood should be able to replace the air in your kitchen ten times per hour.
- Extractor hoods work by either extracting or recirculating air. Recirculation filters air while extraction removes it – and is technically a more complex undertaking.
- Turn down the volume: especially for open kitchens, options like low-noise drives give you and your guests more peace of mind.
While you sauté and simmer, cooker hoods clean the air in your kitchen to keep your home cool and fresh. Let our checklist and gallery of hood types help you select the right cooker hood for your needs.
If you choose a vented option (extraction), consider installation next to a window to reduce the length of ducting pipe.
For optimum performance, instal your hood at a minimum height from your hob. The best cooktop to hood distance for gas hobs: 86 cm; for induction/radiant: 70 to 75 cm.

Which oven do I need?
- Looking to steam, stew, fast-cook, roast or grill on a regular basis? Consider your favourite cooking methods when choosing your oven.
- How big is your household? For smaller households, compact ovens are suitable for serving up smaller portions.
- Want to save time cleaning? Low-cleaning options like catalytic coatings minimise your effort while pyroltic self-cleaning programmes do the work for you.
- Need extra convenience? Consider options like Bosch PerfectBake and PerfectRoast for perfect baking and roasting results – automatically.
- Ever wish you could heat up the oven on your way home? Consider one of our Wi-Fi-enabled ovens with Home Connect.
Bosch built-in ovens provide a seamless fit in cabinetry for a beautiful, tidy look. And more flexibility in designing your kitchen. Discover the options in our gallery.
Instal them at eye level for greater convenience as you check on your roast or handle trays – or choose a cooker (oven with hob) or a compact oven solution for small spaces.
Need an oven for a small space? If you can't fit a standard oven (60 cm), choose a compact oven model (just 45 cm).
It's best not to expose your fridge to a heat source like a cooker or radiator – or to direct sunlight. If it cannot be avoided, try to minimise heat transfer using a suitable insulation plate or maintain a distance of at least of 30mm from electric or gas cookers.
Which fridge-freezer combo do I need?
- Which items will you be accessing more frequently? Select a model where you can arrange them at eye level for greater ease.
- Looking for an energy-efficient fridge? Choose a higher energy efficiency rating to help you save on costs down the road.
- Space-saving tip: double-door fridges will give you more space in front of the fridge than a single door – a smart choice for when your fridge is next to an island.
Bosch fridges come in a variety of styles, sizes and finishes. Find out what to look for when buying a fridge and see the options in the gallery below.
Freestanding fridges with PerfectFit can be placed flush into your niche. No space allowance is required – saving you valuable centimetres. In all other cases, allow a gap of at least 50 mm all around for proper cooling. Interested in fridge-freezers for small kitchens? Check out tips here.
For built-in fridges, make sure that air vents are built into your cabinets.

Yes, as long as you maintain a gap of at least 50mm between the two appliances if installed side by side.
Which dishwasher do I need?
- If space is tight, go for a slimline model, if you prefer seamless kitchen aesthetics, choose a built-in or panel-ready model.
- Consider functions that will make your life easier: hygiene programmes for young families or sparkling wine glasses after your next dinner party.
- Dishwashers and decibels are often a topic. If yours will be in an open space or next to a bedroom, consider a lower noise rating.
Finding the perfect dishwasher for your kitchen also hinges heavily on your needs. We've compiled a checklist of considerations to help you get started.
When planning where to place your dishwasher, always take into account the position of your electrical and water connections.
When installing a built-in dishwasher, leave a gap of 5-10 mm between the top of the dishwasher and the bottom of the worktop to account for uneven floors and cabinetry. Adjust the height of the feet if necessary and ensure that your cabinet drawers do not obstruct the opening and closing of the dishwasher door panel.
The electrical outlet, water supply and drainage hoses should be placed on either the left or right side of the dishwasher. Make sure that the electrical cable and hoses measure at least 60 cm so that the dishwasher can be pulled out from the cabinet for maintenance without having to disconnect the hoses and power cables. Disconnect the power and water supply before any maintenance work.

- Choose whether you want stack your washer and dryer or create a side-by-side combo.
- Or, if space is very limited, consider a washer dryer – one machine that does it all!
- For most kitchen laundry corners, front-loading machines will be more practical than top-loaders.
