Clean enough to eat off.

Grubby hobs and hoods aren’t just unsightly, they’re also unhealthy. We all know old food breeds bacteria and that’s not the kind of environment you want to cook a fresh meal in. And old grease dripping from your hood is just as bad. With our tips, you can keep your appliances clean enough to eat off.

Get your glass hob gleaming.

Follow these steps to keep your ceramic hob looking as good as new:

1. Before cleaning your hob, check that the hob is switched off and cool.

2. Only use non-abrasive cleaning agents that won’t scratch the glass.

3. Initially clean the hob with washing up liquid and a soft sponge.

4. To remove burnt-on deposits and tough dirt, use the Glass Scraper provided in the Ceramic Hob Maintenance Pack and wipe clean.

5. Apply a small quantity of the Hob Cleaner and polish to a shine with the lint-free cloth included in the product pack.

The burner caps of a gas cooktop are in a dishwasher for cleaning.

Give your gas hob a swab.

When your hob has cooled down, lift off the pan supports and burner caps so that you can clean them and the hob surface separately. When everything is clean and dry, reassemble the hob, ensuring that the burner caps are correctly positioned on the diffuser.

Clean the hob surface.

1. Initially clean the hob with washing up liquid and a soft, damp sponge.

2. To remove burnt-on deposits, apply a small quantity of the Hob Cleaner and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth.

Clean the pan supports.

If you've got our high quality removable, enamel supports you can confidently clean them in the dishwasher without worrying about corrosion, cracks or discolouration.

Alternatively, wash them by hand using soapy water and a non-wire brush. Take care to also clean the rubber rests, ensuring they don't come loose. Without them the support may scratch the hob. Always allow the burners and pan supports to dry completely, as water droplets or damp patches on the hob at the start of cooking may damage the enamel.

In a bright kitchen, the grease filter of an open wall-mounted hood is visible.

Time to look under the hood?

The air in your kitchen is only as fresh as your hood’s filters. How you keep them pristine will depend on what type of system your extractor uses. All Bosch hoods come with metal grease filters as standard, but only those operated in recirculation mode also require activated charcoal filters to eliminate odours. Some models will indicate when you need to clean or replace one or both of these, but even if yours doesn’t, you can follow this rule of thumb:

  • Metal grease filters: Clean every 2 months to remove fat deposits that could otherwise catch fire.
  • Activated charcoal filters: These can’t be cleaned and should be replaced twice a year.

Ensure your grease filter never falters.

Cleaning your metal filter is surprisingly easy. Just pop it in the dishwasher. Even if you do the job by hand, you’ll find it’s simple enough when you stick to the pointers below.

Clean in the dishwasher.

  • Don’t clean heavily soiled metal grease filters together with cookware.
  • Use your usual dishwasher detergent.
  • Select a programme that washes at no more than 70°C.

Clean by hand.

  • Avoid aggressive, acidic or alkaline cleaning products.
  • Soak the metal grease filter in hot soapy water.
  • Clean the filters with a brush and then rinse thoroughly.
  • Leave the metal grease filters to drain on an absorbent cloth.

Before reinstalling the filter, use a damp cloth to clean the filter holder. Wear protective gloves to prevent cuts and scratches on the appliance's sharp inside edges.

Cleaning supplies and a venting hob filter placed on a venting hob.

Two-in-one? A venting hob is just as easily done.

Even with a venting hob, there’s no need to reinvent the cleaning job. You can shine your glass just as you would with a conventional induction or electric hob. Cleaning the filters and controls should also feel familiar.

Clean plastics and controls.

Our Hob Cleaner makes short work of getting all hob parts spotless. Finish off by wiping everything down with soft cloth and warm water before drying the appliance with a lint-free cloth.

Clean the ventilation system.

Here, too, you can replace the activated carbon filters and clean the metal grease filter. We recommend giving the filter a wash every 30 operating hours or at least once a month. It takes just one hand to remove it and you can pop it in the dishwasher.

Always in good odour.

Want to be doubly sure to dispel any smell? Consider upgrading the standard CleanAir filter to the CleanAir Plus, which is not only even more effective at eliminating odours but also noticeably decreases hood noise levels. If you’re after a filter that can really go the distance, you’ll love the regenerative LongLife filter with its 10-year life span. Steel the show.

When your hob has cooled down, lift off the pan supports and burner caps so that you can clean them and the hob surface separately. When everything is clean and dry, reassemble the hob, ensuring that the burner caps are correctly positioned on the diffuser.

1. Check that the hob or hood is turned off and cold.

2. Sprinkle the stainless steel cleaning powder on a wet cloth and wipe the surface.

3. Use a damp, clean cloth to wipe away the powder residue and a dry cloth to remove any moisture.

4. Gently wipe the conditioning cloth across the stainless steel surface and use kitchen paper to remove any residual oil and polish.
